I recently purchased the Aventura V2 140 directly from feelfreeus.com. I purchased the kayak sight unseen based on reviews found online. The delivery was seamless. I was extremely surprised how fast I received the kayak and how well it was packaged. I was a little skeptical about purchasing a kayak online, but Feelfree gets 5 stars for their shipping speed and quality. I am new to kayaking, a hobby I picked up during COVID, and it has been very difficult to find an available kayak other than the typical big box store options. I am 6’3”, 225lbs which added additional complexity to finding a good fit. The Aventura 140 is absolutely the kayak for paddlers of my size, but it is also suitable for medium size paddlers as well. I give it 5 stars for fit. The Aventura 140 tracks extremely well and although I am still getting familiar with the drop down skeg, in the right conditions, the skeg really locks you in and keeps you tracking straight in windy conditions and in certain currents. I give it 5 stars for tracking. Stability is definitely a concern for newcomers and this kayak has excellent primary stability and as I am learning to get it on edge, the secondary stability is very good. This is not a tippy kayak. I give it 5 stars for stability. It offers a great deal of storage space with both bow and stern hatches each with bulkheads (an added day hatch would be a great addition). The deck rigging, perimeter lines and soft grab handles are top notch and commonly found on high-end kayaks. I give it 5 stars for added features. I don’t think you will find another kayak of this quality at this price point. This is an extremely well equipped and efficient paddling kayak and competes with kayaks at higher price points. There are a few improvements that would make this kayak even better. For a 14 foot touring kayak, it is a bit heavy at 65 lbs. Reducing the weight several pounds would make it easier to transport and getting to the water. The seat is comfortable, and the adjustable backrest is a nice feature, but adding hip padding and front leg lift adjustments in the seat pan, would enhance the comfort level. I have an issue with one of the foot braces. The right foot brace is solid, but unfortunately the left foot brace feels less stable and creaks. So, when paddling and applying pressure to the left foot brace it is a constant reminder that something isn’t quite right. I give it 4 stars for comfort. Also, the hatches are not completely watertight. The bow hatch will leak when paddling in rougher conditions. Expect to have some water inside the bow hatch. I haven’t had this issue with the stern hatch. I always use dry bags, so this is not too much of a concern for me. Overall, I highly recommend this kayak for individuals new to touring kayaks. At this price point, it will be difficult to find another touring kayak with comparable tracking, stability and high quality features.
I ordered this boat for shipment directly from FeelFree USA, and the shipping was quicker than expected. After making special arrangements with the freight carrier for pickup at a third-party location, I brought the boat home and unwrapped it from its thoroughly adequate packing material. Minor hull deformations were present, most notably beneath the seat, but I don't think these have impacted the boat's performance appreciably. After the boat's first encounter with 2'+ waves and wind, I discovered that the forward hatch was leaking a lot. The rearward hatch was fine. It turns out that the sealant between the hatch ring and the deck had holes in it from the factory. I added some marine-grade 3M sealant, and the leaking has subsided, but the forward hatch still takes on a good bit of water in moderate conditions. The only other gripe I have with the boat is that the forward adjustment for the seat back is completely non-functional. The ratchets slip unless the stars are aligned and I hold my breath. This leaves me sitting in an unsupportive seat that gets in the way of torso rotation. This would be a big deal for me, except that I'm replacing the seat back with an aftermarket backband from IR, so it's not a long-term issue. Minor bugs aside, this boat is fast and fun. Its speed and tracking put my wife's SOT fishing kayak to shame. I constantly appreciate high-end features like the perimiter decklines, ample storage, and comfortable but snug cockpit outfitting. The cockpit combing takes a Seals 1.7 spray skirt no problem, the skeg control and deck bungies fall easily to hand, and the retracting carry toggles and deep keel make the boat easy for two people to handle ashore. Overall, a light-duty sea kayak or all-around tourer that punches above its weight compared to boats at a similar price.
